So I guess I am an angel , or at least that is what the sweet elderly woman informed me of when I met her at the gas station……..

Last week when I went to fill up my tank the gas station in town there was quite a long line. Everyone waited a good fifteen minutes to fill-up. There was a very cute elderly woman at the station. She got out of her car and walked a bit while we waited. I noticed her and the difficulty she had in walking. She was very patient though and waited her turn. After a very long wait I pulled up to the pump and started to pump my gas. She was across from me so me being a people person started to observe her and her cuteness! Finally it was her turn to pull up to the pump as well. Just as she started to pull forward someone from the street pulled in from the other end to use the pump next to the elderly woman’s. She pulled as close to her as she possibly could without observing that the poor little lady was trying to get close enough to the pump. She got out of her car smiled at the elderly woman and pumped her gas, never giving thought on what she has just done! Everyone that had just waited at the station to pump gas was appalled! The elderly woman was able to inch up as close to the car in front of her as possible. She then got out of her car and walked over to me. She said, “I am 87 years old, I just got out of the hospital, I am not supposed to be out and my daughter doesn’t know I am out or she would be very upset with me!” I asked, “Why were you in the hospital?” Her response was, “I was very sick and there for 6 days!” She then asked, “Can you help me?”, “Of Course”, I replied. I said, “I had planned on just that. Can I please complete my fill-up and I will come right over to help you and make sure the hose reaches?” “Thank you”, she said.

I went over to help her, the hose did reach and I was able to fill her tank. I felt so bad for her I told her to go sit in her car and I would go in to get her change. After giving her change she said, “WAIT I have to give you something for your kindness!” I told her no thank you just please go home safely and rest. She would not take no for an answer and continued to search her car for something to give me. She finally came out with a dollar that she forced at me. I thanked her and gave it back telling her to donate it to someone for me. She teared up, and said, “You are an Angel, You will go to heaven.” I thanked her and said “Please go home safely!” She left and I began to cry. I honestly don’t know exactly why. She touched my heart that day.

As I look back at that day a few things come to mind. After observing the woman that blocked the pump, I pray that I have taught my children compassion. That neither of them would ever treat someone like that especially an elderly person! I also pray that I have taught them the gift of serving your fellow man. No matter how small the task may be it will not go unappreciated. I also pray that my mom and dad know how much I love them, and if they were sick I hope they know they can call me and I will be happy to go get their gas or anything else they may need! I also pray that no-one will ever treat my mom or dad the way that sweet lady was treated that day! She was special and I pray she was right, that I am going to heaven! :)

Finally...........

He finally gets it….. Every day after work I go straight home, take the dogs out, change my clothes, take off my rings, wash my hands and start dinner. For quite some time it was not like that. I would go home take the dogs out, change my clothes, take off my rings, CLEAN THE KITCHEN, and wash my hands and then start dinner. After much talking to my two adult children, one of the two of them decided that it was not much fun starting every evening off with mom complaining and in an instant bad mood because the kitchen was a mess from them making lunch and having snacks, etc. They decided it was not a good way to start of an evening! So Mr. Ali has taken it upon himself to make sure the kitchen is spotless on a daily basis when I get home from work. I have thanked him in the past but last night I said, “Ali, I just want to tell you once again thank you for doing such a good job taking care of the lunch/snack mess. I cannot tell you how happy it makes me, and how much easier it makes my life every evening!” His response to me was so genuine, “Mom your welcome, it is the least I can do.” Wow, the least he can do, I thought…..Oh my, he finally gets it! He appreciates his mom and dad! It may sound like something so small but to me it was HUGE! 

I guess he is all grown up!
